“Up Up Up” instructions
1) Students should try to sing along with the chorus – this is the part of a song that returns and is often the same. In this story/book the chorus beings with “up up up” and ends with “I know how.” 2) When students have practiced the chorus they can try to get through the whole story and always sing along with the chorus 3) Students can then try and count how many times they sing through the chorus (4 times). |

Using a rhythm instrument, have your child “play” each mother’s name. They should play once for each syllable so “Bum-py Mo-ther Toad” would be 5 hits of the instrument. See if they can play the mother names during the song/story.

FIVE FAT TURKEYS!
Kindergarten students learned this song in music class. We practiced audiation (inner hearing) by singing one (then 2, 3, 4) phrases "in our head," only doing the motions. Ask your child to share this song and activity with you (the words are in the document below).
Five fat turkeys are we,
We slept all night in a tree
When the cook came around, we couldn't be found,
So that's why we're here you see!!!

Kindergarten classes have been doing a movement activity to show the difference between a strong macrobeat (moving like goblins) and no distinct beat (moving like ghosts). Ask your student to show you the difference by using the link below and asking him/her to move like a goblin or a ghost!
